Am staying at H10 Salauris will be our 3rd time to, but first time with a 1year old whom I don't wish to keep waiting while we take turns on the bigger rides.Have already bought 3day 2pk passI had seen that info on PA website but not made much sense to me? Which would be best ticket to buy? I don't mind just having a fast pass for 1 of the days to get on busier rides I'd missed the 1st day. And am really not fussed about sitting in a front row of a ride, or is that even what it means??Sorry for my confusion! And am really not fussed about sitting in a front row of a ride, or is that even what it means??Sorry for my confusion! We went in may last year and spent two days at the park we basically walked on most of the rides, they only ones that had a que where stampidia and hurrican condor, dragon khan and shambala, and that was only because they were closed due to wind when they did open there was a surge of people causing a que of around 40 mins but after an hour or so it was down to around 15 mins. We're going back this may and don't plan on buying fast passes if you stick to visiting mid week I think you will be fine without one.
Just back from 7 nights at Hotel el Paso and 7 full days at Portaventura, Ferrari Land and Costa Caribe Water Park. Just as good as I remembered from 2 years ago. Some points to note as means of guidance for others. Thomas Cook Hotel el Paso deal (purchased Dec 2018) included all inclusive food and drinks plus daily vouchers to be used in Park for menu meals (lunch or dinner). These meals in park were very good value and adult ticket offered starter, bread, main course, dessert and a drink (incl beer, 1.5 Euros supplement gets a big beer).
Junior meal ticket was two courses with drink. Deal included access to Portaventura everyday plus one visit to Ferrari Land. Additional costs I incurred were a couple of beers upon morning arrival as all inclusive for alcoholic drinks doesn't start until midday. One day at Costa Caribe Water Park 15 Euros each (buy at Hotel el Paso Reception), 3 Express / Fast passes (wrist bands) for water park purchased in park for 18 euros each if staying at one of the park hotels.
Ferrari Land Express passes (20 Euros each purchased in Ferrari Land), we weren't going to buy these as there aren't that many rides, but some queue times meant that we went back to buy them after first queue experience. These passes only give one express access to each big ride.
We left having done all rides within 3 hours. With hindsight I would have queued for Red Force (biggest coaster ride) again to have a second go as you only have one day included access to this park. When queuing for Flying Dreams (right queue) or Racing Legends (left queue) the former is a must see whereas the latter is a bit of a let down compared to the first. I rated flying Dreams as one of my favourite experiences. Red Force is a must (currently tallest and fastest coaster in Europe, fifth highest coaster in world). We missed the restaurant in the park but apparently we could have used our lunch vouchers in there.
Express / Fast Passes for Portaventura are a MUST in season are in 2018 are 70 Euros per person for 7 days unlimited rides without restrictions. These are bought at check-in at the hotel reception and are well worth it. We went to park everyday for first four days (incl arrival day) and my iPhone showed that we did circa 20,000 steps each day. Remember that as I have two boys (16 & 12), this should be regarded as an activity holiday, however the walk back to the hotel is only 5 minutes from the park entrance with a welcoming bar, sun loungers and pools. We had a room key card each which is also your card for entry to the park and needs to be shown together with Express wrist band on each ride hence easy access in a zipped pocket is recommended.
Power in the rooms (and hence the Air Con) requires one card being placed in the slot in the room meaning that AC gets switched off when you leave the room. Any standard sized card or do not disturb/clean my room card also fits the slot if you want a cool room when you come back.
Please do not abuse and ensure you leave patio door closed. Food in the buffet restaurant is good and varied - and to be honest I'd say this year was better than 2 years ago. Watch out for often overlooked items such as a great Gazpacho.
It's not 5., but then again it's priced as a 3. to 4., so don't complain as you're getting a great deal. Rooms cleaned and made up daily and I was pleased at the level of cleanliness. We were on 4th floor of main building looking out over the road rather than inwards towards the pool. Do not dry items on the small patio.
They WILL blow away. Instead we dried items by hanging over internal doors, etc. Don't forget that bars close at 11.30pm but remember that it is a family hotel with all nationalities represented. We didn't feel the need to stay up later after a full day in park. Bars operate a queue system hence queue to the right of bar as you're looking at it. This works well as quickly becomes obvious) Pool is large and clean. Sun loungers inevitably follow the towel ownership practice, hence early towel placement is better.
They can all go by 10 am with the shaded ones going first. Trust me, in July and August, shade is a must. Most queue lines in park have shaded areas. 7 days in the Park would be more than enough.
You could do 10 days if you want to take in a day in Barcelona or a day in Salou on the beach. If you go to Barcelona, book in advance (ie months in advance) for tickets to view Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral. A must in Barcelona as are the Nou Camp (Football) and the Ramblas. You may need to investigate independent return travel by train (station is walking distance from hotel) as I'm unsure if holiday company day trips allow time for all three of above, especially if you want to go inside Cathedral (which is a must). I can't think of many more tips but we saved money in park by drinking water at water fountains found at entrance to every toilet in park.

It's batter to have shorts with cargo pockets for passes, phone, glasses etc as carrying a bag means a bag search at park entry (with associated queues) plus the need to place bag in open locker on each ride (safe-ish but a pain in the rear). I knew from experience to take sun glasses with a tight strap on back to hold them on during rides, anything less than a secure visible strap will result in you being asked to remove them and face the pain of trying to get them in a pocket.
The latter tip is also a must. Fast Pass / Express queues sometimes have a different entry point, on other rides they may be via the exit or a side branch off main queue. They are always signposted (somewhere, you may have to hunt). We have been twice but may go again.
By the way, if you go to the park every day you will not have energy to go to park at night (last rides at about 11pm/11.30pm and park closes at midnight). Instead, have a day or two lazing by pool (get your towels down early) then go up to park at about 4pm and dine in the park (menu using vouchers) meaning you get to experience Shambhala at night. Awesome at dusk, we rode it five times in a row thanks to Express Passes. You will understand pure unspoken hatred by the end of your trip, generated at your back as you pass those queuing in the normal queue again and again and again. Relax, you earnt it and paid for the Express passes, so don't worry.
I did queue once in the main queue to the Tutuki Splash (45 minutes) so my boys could experience what it feels like to watch people in the Express queue pass us again and again, having queued usually for no longer than 3 or 4 minutes. Positives: Brilliant theme park for all the family - lots to do for everyone of all ages.
During the summer months the park extends the hours so they close at midnight and put on a nighttime show at the lake in the centre. THIS IS A MUST DO!
It involves fireworks, music, jet skis and boats that have light up characters for each area of the park.some advice - get there early to get a good seat as seating areas around the lake is limited and you need to get a good view. There are shows on during the daytime too - 2 of the best shows are the Bang Bang West show (it is in Spanish so we’ve never got a clue what’s being said but it’s absolutely hilarious and the actors are that good you don’t need to understand what’s being said!) and the Aloha Polynesia dancers (they do daytime and nighttime shows and both are must do’s too!). There is plenty of security staff around the park which is comforting to see and there are always staff cleaning around the park so there is very little rubbish and it keeps the park looking clean and tidy. Negatives: Food is expensive and not a great variety - standard burgers/chicken/salads/chips etc and the drinks are extortionate. TOP TIP - buy one of the large red bottles (about a litre and a half) as you can refill them in BOTH PortAventura and the PortAventura Caribe Aquatic Park but they don’t advertise that!
It was €4:20 for a refill yet for a normal bottle of coke it was €3:20. Extra advice: On Tutuki Splash you will get absolutely drenched! Our advice is to take a poncho if you don’t fancy getting absolutely soaked or if you don’t mind take a towel and change of clothes as the water stinks! Wear comfortable shoes - we spent from 10:30 until midnight and walked over 20km. The park do not allow GoPros on any of their rides - I got told a number of times to take the chest harness off.
(However if you are sneaky enough you can wear it on the water rides just remember to take it off before you get off as the staff can be quite rude!).
